Edinburgh Winner - "The Object Lesson"

The last three weeks have been grueling -- seeing five shows a day, and searching for THE ONE.After much thought and advice, I came up with this shortlist -- all these plays should be seen if they travel, which I'm quite sure they will:"Chef" by Sabrina Mahfouz -- a gripping story of a woman retaining her humanity through her culinary art albeit in a prison kitchen. Starring the wonderful Jade Anouka, whom you may have seen in the all-female Julius Caesar at St. Ann's last year."Cuckooed" by Mark Thomas -- a serious story of betrayal by his best friend in the ranks of activists working against the British arms trade."Lungs" by Duncan Macmillan -- a two-hander done in the round chronicling the rise, fall and eventual death of a longstanding real love.

"Unfaithful" by Owen McCafferty -- two couples' intersecting lives by an Irish master playwright, amazingly acted.

And the winner is: "The Object Lesson" by Geoff Sobelle. You can read about it and the Award here.

Join Geoff Sobelle, and me, for the opening night of his piece, "The Object Lesson." We have reserved a very limited number of seats for friends to celebrate his incredible art. For more information, email me at Carol@bestofedinburgh.com.

If you'd like a peek at the final Awards Ceremony, held on August 21st, here's the video. If you'd like to read an interview which appeared in The Scotsman, on the tenth anniversary of the prize. And, here's more information from The Scotsman about The Object Lesson and Geoff Sobelle. Please join me next year for this glorious, if exhausting, festival.

Sincerely,

Carol
