Plays to End This Year -- Invitation For The Next
If Taylor Mac has not yet appeared on your radar -- get ready for a stellar talent. Long known in the fringy theatre world for his sequined flamboyance, as well as his sensitive writing, Taylor has now given us"Hir," at Playwrights' Horizons. Don't miss this one, which Isherwooddeemed "sensational." Of course, how could anyone pass up a performance by the inimitable Kristine Nielsen?
I'm going to try "H2O" by the mysterious playwright,Jane Martin at 59e59, which intrigued me after reading this review from a previous production in D.C.
I missed "The Savannah Disputation" when it was seen at Playwrights Horizonsseveral years ago. If you have the need to laugh about religious differences (and who doesn't?) -- it's being revived at The Cell-- use code: LPTW, for discounts.
"Marjorie Prime" by Pulitzer Prize Finalist, Jordan Harrison, sounds terrific -- again, at Playwrights Horizons. Here's a marvelous review from an L.A. production, with the ever mesmerizing Lois Smith. Happily, she'll be again starring in the title role.
Naomi Wallace continues her season at Signaturewith "Night is a Room."
Although I wasn't a fan of her last, "The Liquid Plain," this one sounds promising, and has already been well reviewed.
Looking ahead -- please run out and buy discounted tickets now for "Blackbird" by David Harrower. I thought I had seen it recently in Edinburgh -- so vivid was my memory. But, the year was 2005, when I witnessed this enthralling, indeed harrowing (pardon the pun, please) play --- not to be missed!
Another unmissable piece is "Key Change," the Best of Edinburgh 2015 Award winning play about women's lives in prison. You can buytickets with early bird discount codes: first week, CT20; second week, CT25.
I would like to invite you to a benefit performance of "Key Change"on Sunday, January 10th at 3:30pm. Please join us for a celebration and reception with the cast, crew and the Head of the Edinburgh Fringe, Kath Mainland. A minimum, tax deductible contribution of $100 will reserve a seat, and help us continue to bring important international work to you.
Please make checks payable to
